TREMONT, The Bronx (PIX11) -- When an 83-year-old woman refused to hand over her purse to two thieves who followed her home, the culprits knocked her to the ground so hard she hit her head.

Police said the octogenarian was returning to her apartment on Longfellow Avenue in the Tremont section of the Bronx shortly before 6 p.m. on Tuesday when she was confronted by the pair.

The men, who were caught on surveillance camera running from the scene, demanded that she give them her purse. When she said no, they pushed her to the floor, causing her to hit her head.

Neighbors who live in the woman's building say she is fought the suspects, hit them with a cane but they over powered her and pushed her to the ground.

Silvia Hill, the victim's best friend said "They need to go to jail, but she is a tough woman and she was not going to just let them take her purse."

She suffered a cut and was taken to a hospital, treated and released.

Her attackers are still at large, police said Thursday as they released video of the culprits.
