PATERSON, N.J. (AP) — Twelve people were displaced and five buildings were damaged or destroyed by a fast-moving fire in Paterson.

No injuries were reported in four-alarm fire, which broke out early Sunday in the area of Godwin Avenue and Straight Street. But the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

The displaced residents — nine children and three adults — lived in two of the buildings, while the three other buildings were vacant.

Two vacant buildings were destroyed, while one of the occupied buildings had significant fire damage to the attic and water damage to the bottom floor. The other occupied building had minor exterior damage.

City fire officials tell The Record that one vacant building was on fire and another building was beginning to catch when firefighters arrived around 1 a.m.
