Reward posted after vandals deface Civil War grave site on Long Island

LAKE GROVE, Long Island (PIX11) – U.S. flags and flowers were ripped from a Civil War grave site by vandals on Long Island, police said Tuesday as they called for help finding whoever defaced the solemn memorial.

It happened between Oct. 10 and Oct. 13 at Lake Ronkonkoma Cemetery, located at 792 Hawkins Ave. in Lake Grove.

Two U.S. flags were stolen, the metal support of a gravestone was damaged and two flower wreaths were moved off their intended graves, according to Suffolk County Crime Stoppers.

A cash reward of up to $5,000 has been posted for any information that leads to an arrest in the case, the agency said.
