Woman arrested on marijuana charges has seizure in Brooklyn cell, dies

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, Brooklyn (PIX11) — A 22-year-old woman who was arrested for criminal sale and unlawful possession of marijuana died in her jail cell of an apparent seizure, the NYPD said.

Jasmine Lawrence, of 2416 Tiebout Ave. in the Bronx,  was arrested in front of 1350 Bedford Ave. on Saturday at 7:55 p.m and placed, by herself, in a holding cell. During the course of arrest processing, she had a seizure in her cell around 11:58 p.m.

Emergency services were on the scene within seven minutes and administered aid to Lawrence. She was taken to Woodhull at 12:44 a.m. on Sunday and was pronounced dead by 1 a.m.

The invesgation is ongoing. The Medical Examiner will determine her cause of death.
