Officer shoots, kills man who attacked him with box-cutter: police

FLUSHING, Queens (PIX11) -- A man was shot and killed by a police officer Sunday morning after he lunged at the officer with a box cutter.

Police were called to New York Hospital Queens around 7:30 a.m., for a complaint of a man threatening hospital staff with a knife before taking off.

After canvassing the area for about an hour, police found a suspect who fit the description on Kissena Boulevard near Ash Avenue.


When police approached the suspect, he lunged at one of the officers with the knife in hand.

The officer fired his weapon twice, striking the suspect once in the stomach.

The suspect was taken to New York Hospital Queens where he was pronounced dead.

The officers were not injured.

Police have not released the identity of the suspect and the investigation is ongoing.
