ORLANDO, Fl. (PIX11) — Several women hoping to get cheap hair extensions at a beauty store’s grand opening were pepper sprayed by police instead.

Beauty Exchange on Pine Hills Circle was giving away Brazilian hair extensions valued between $55 and $100 for only 1 cent to the first 50 people in line, WKMG Local 6 reported.

But when a line was not formed and a numbering system was not put into place to keep track of customers, a crowd began to form outside the beauty store, prompting police to report to the scene.

Video footage shows officers standing at the entrance of the beauty store, motioning the crowd to move back. When they were unable to gain control of the crowd, pepper spray was used, the station reported.

A police spokesperson told Local 6 that the officers pepper sprayed over the heads of the crowd, but video shows one officer apparently spraying at eye level.

Beauty Exchange management told the station they did not anticipate such a large crowd. They also said corrections will be put into place in the event of a future giveaway.
