How to get your appointment:

  • Call 1 (800) 564-6868 between 9am and 5pm Monday through Friday to arrange an appointment

- All participants should bring valid picture ID, verification of income and proof of address

St. Michael's "In the Pink" (Newark)

  • No appointment necessary
  • All participants should bring valid picture ID, verification of income and proof of address

What happens after the test

Project Renewal/Breast Treatment Task Force (Brooklyn)

  • Uninsured women will be enrolled in a New York State Cancer Screening Program (CSP)
  • Our mobile program partners with hospitals, breast centers, and radiology offices that also provide for the CSPs as diagnostic providers.  Therefore uninsured patients are referred to a CSP diagnostic center for free follow-up care
  • Films are interpreted by a board- certified radiologist. Reports are sent to the patient and her doctor within 10 business days. Patients with abnormal findings are contacted by our patient navigators.  Our navigators will explain the results and will arrange follow-up appointments.  Our navigators will arrange follow-up exams for insured patients through their insurance network.  Uninsured CSP patients will be referred to one of our partner facilities, for free diagnostic follow-up exams. Our Navigators follow the patients through the diagnostic process.

 

PIX11 News, Project Renewal, Breast Treatment Task Force and St. Michael's Medical Center have partnered to provide free breast exams and mammograms to women of all ages across New York City and New Jersey.

On Wednesday, October 21, PIX11 News will be holding two live events as part of our special Breast Cancer Awareness Month coverage.

  • Brooklyn, 7 a.m.- 2 p.m.: Project Renewal's ScanVan will be at the Community Healthcare Network (1167 Nostrand Ave.) with PIX11's Lisa Mateo
  • Brooklyn, 3 p.m.- 6:30 p.m.:  Project Renewal's ScanVan will be at Barclays Center (620 Atlantic Ave.) with PIX11's Tamsen Fadal
  • New Jersey, 3 p.m.- 7p.m.: St. Michael's "In the Pink" program will be outside Newark City Hall (920 Broad St.) with PIX11's Narmeen Choudhury

Do you qualify?

Project Renewal/Breast Treatment Task Force (Brooklyn)

  • Any woman is welcome to regardless of her insurance status, or citizenship status.
  • In some of the cases involving young women or symptomatic women - ScanVan may not necessarily see them on the ScanVan but Project Renewal and Breast Treatment Task Force will navigate them to a diagnostic provider that will provide free or low-cost exams and/or mammograms
  • Please make an appointment to guarantee you will be see on October 21

St. Michael's "In the Pink" (Newark)

  • Women of all ages who are uninsured or under insured

  • All women will be entered in the system at St. Michael's Medical Center upon arrival
  • For women who come to event but can’t be screened because of time, they will still be entered into the St. Michael’s system and be given an appointment for an exam another time
  • All women who qualify or need a mammogram will be given a voucher for a free mammogram at the hospital at a later date/time
