ST. ALBANS, Queens (PIX11) -- Two children were killed and another person was injured when a fire broke out inside a 2-story home in Queens Monday evening.

Fire officials say the all-hands blaze started at a home on Tioga Drive in St. Albans just after 7 p.m.

Flames were under control within 45 minutes, then firefighters discovered two young boys.

The children -- 6-year-old Andrew Kavanagh and 11-year-old John Kavanagh -- were found on the second-floor of the home.

The children were taken to a hospital where they were pronounced dead, NYPD said.

Police initially identified the boys, who both live at the home, by different names.

A 33-year-old man also was taken to a hospital with unknown injuries, police said. Two firefighters suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The FDNY says the children's mother was not home at the time, and when she arrived on the scene, she was taken to the hospital by the NYPD.

The Red Cross is on site assisting those displaced by the blaze.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
