HUNTINGTON STATION, N.Y. (PIX11) — A Long Island mother was arrested after police say she left her 10-month-old unattended in a car while she went shopping Sunday afternoon.

Police received a call around 2 p.m., when a woman noticed a crying baby in a parked car at Target at 124 East Jericho Turnpike in Huntington Station.

The woman and another customer used a car antenna to open the car and rescue the baby boy.

Police located the baby’s mother, 20-year-old Tirza Artiga-Acosta, who had been shopping for approximately half an hour.

The baby was taken to Huntington Hospital for evaluation and then released to a family member.

Artiga-Acosta was charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
