Power being restored after outage in Rochdale Village

JAMAICA, Queens (PIX11) – A power outage Wednesday left dozens of people stranded on separate scaffolds and froze elevators inside the buildings that make up Rochdale Village.

Firefighters rescued 52 people left stuck on the scaffolding, no injuries have been reported.  The FDNY is also going from building to building to make sure no one else is trapped behind the elevator doors.

Rochdale Village is powered by a private power plant that provides electricity, heating, air-conditioning and hot water to all of the residential buildings and two shopping malls.

The multi-building community sits on 120 acres in Jamaica, Queens and is made up of 20 buildings.
