2 workers dead after trench collapses in NJ

BOONTON, N.J. (PIX11) -- Two workers are dead after a trench collapsed in Boonton, New Jersey.

Officials say 4 construction workers were installing a drainage system near a farmhouse on Rockaway Valley Road at about 3:30 p.m. when one of the trench walls gave way, trapping them 10 feet below the surface.

Two of the workers were rescued immediately, but the other 2 were trapped beneath the dirt.

The body of 1 was recovered at about 6 p.m.

Authorities are still working on recovering the second body.
