HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — Officials are awaiting new test results after influenza was ruled out as the cause of death of a preschool student in New Jersey.

The 4-year-old attended Yardville Elementary School in Hamilton Township and died at home Sept. 25.

During a special meeting on Monday night, The Times of Trenton reports parents complained about the way school officials have handled the situation.

U.S. Rep. Chris Smith told parents the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will expedite samples to try to determine why the student died. The CDC wants to determine whether enterovirus, which has sickened children in New Jersey and 21 other states, is to blame.

The boy’s name has not been released.

The school has been sanitized as a precaution.
