MANHATTAN (PIX11) -- A tractor trailer became stuck on FDR Drive Monday, snarling the morning commute while heavy-duty trucks tried to dislodge it.

It happened in the northbound lanes. Tractor trailers are not allowed on the roadway.

The truck hit about four overhead supports, gnarling its trailer. Heavy-duty trucks trying to clear the crash appeared to have backed up the tractor trailer, only to have the truck hit another support.

The northbound lanes of FDR Drive are shut down starting at 34th Street, with delays back until the Manhattan and Brooklyn bridges.

It could be several hours before the mess is cleared.

Drivers are advised to take Bowery to Third Avenue and go northbound from there.
