NEW YORK (PIX11) - An FDNY EMS captain accused of molesting young boys in Los Angeles waived extradition Monday at the criminal courthouse on Staten Island.
Wilbert Riera, 51, will be moved to Los Angeles in October, according to the Staten Island District Attorney's office.
The 21-year veteran is based in Rossville, Staten Island. FBI agents arrested the EMS captain at his firehouse Friday.
According to the Los Angeles District Attorney's office, Riera is charged with 6 felony counts of a lewd act on a child under 14. The alleged acts occurred between September 12th and 14th while he visited California.
"It scares me cause I got two girls of my own and I have a nephew that lives right up the block," Staten Island resident Susan Tartamella said.
Riera lives in Bay Shore, Long Island with his elderly mother. Neighbors told PIX11 after the arrest he was highly regarded in the neighborhood.
If convicted, Riera faces up life in state prison. Los Angeles prosecutors are expected to ask for bail to be set at $2.6 million.
