JAMAICA, N.Y. (PIX11) — A woman who just got off a flight from Montego Bay, Jamaica was stopped by officials at John F. Kennedy Airport when cocaine was found in her possession.

During an inspection of Janisha Amalee Atkins’ luggage Sept. 19, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers discovered two pairs of platform shoes that felt unusually heavy.

Atkins was taken to a private room, where officers probed the shoes and allegedly discovered cocaine. They continued searching the passenger’s luggage and uncovered a pocketbook that also contained cocaine, officials say.

The woman was arrested for the importation of a controlled substance. She was turned over to Homeland Security Investigations. Atkins now faces federal narcotics smuggling charges.

The total weight of cocaine seized was approximately 3.7 pounds. Its estimated street value is more than $64,000.
