BABYLON, N.Y. (AP) — A Long Island man has died after being found unconscious in his above-ground swimming pool.

Police say Thomas Romanello, of North Babylon, was discovered by his wife and daughter on Wednesday.

The 56-year-old was pulled out with the help of a neighbor and taken to a hospital where he died.

Authorities say the death did not appear to be suspicious but an investigation was continuing.

They say Romanello may have been cleaning the pool. He was wearing swimming trunks and a pool vacuum was found in the water.

An autopsy will be performed to determine whether he had a medical episode or drowned.
