MT. SINAI, N.Y. (PIX11)-- A 15-year-old has been arrested after allegedly saying there would be a shooting and bombing at his Long Island high school, police said Tuesday.
The unidentified ninth grader, who attends Mt. Sinai High School, allegedly used the anonymous social media app Yik Yak to make serious threats, posting there would be a shooting at the school and then he was going to blow it up on Tuesday, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.
Parents and students read the teenager's posts on the app regarding the threats and notified school authorities who then told police, authorities said.
Detectives arrested the teen on a charge of making a terrorist threat, police said.
The teen is scheduled to appear Tuesday at Family Court.
Suffolk County police officers will also have an increased presence at the school Tuesday.
