NEW YORK (PIX11) – Beware: A phishing scam preying on New Yorkers by telling them they owe tolls appears still to be in full effect.

A PIX11 News employee, who does not own an E-ZPass, received one such message Sunday.

Its sender shows up as E-ZPass Collection Agency under the email team@tininternational.com. With a subject line of “Indebted for driving on toll road,” the email is addressed impersonally to “customer” and urges the recipient to download an invoice by clicking a link.

“You have not paid for driving on a toll road. This invoice is sent repeatedly, please service your debt in the shortest possible time,” the email read.

That’s the same message that the MTA first warned residents about in June.

Anyone who receives the message are urged to not open or respond to it, but instead delete it immediately.

E-ZPass said it never sends out email invoices for payments. So if you owe tolls, you’ll receive a bill in the mail.

Any questions about the validity of a message received from E-ZPass scan be directed to the E-ZPass New York Customer Service Center at 800-333-8655.

Its not just NY, I had an account several years ago from PA and moved to NC. I just got this email two weeks ago and I immediately called EZpass PA. As the email claimed I had a past due bill and was being turned over to a collection agency. DO NOT OPEN THE EMAIL link its a scam, trap and possible virus.
