(PIX11) -- Visitors have turned a tradition on the Brooklyn Bridge dirty.

'Love locks' has always been a sign of someone's undying love on the bridge. It's been a place where tourists, or locals can clip something on the bridge to honor someone they love.

Recently, city crews have found items like bras, trash bags, condoms, and other trash along the bridge.

They city encourages people not to leave locks or anything else on the bridge in an attempt to keep it clean. However, when it comes to enforcement, officers look the other way.

One officer told the Daily News that safety is his first priority, stating "We're not the caretakers, our job is security."
