NEW YORK (PIX11) - A new livery cab service launches next week with the goal of making women feel safer.

It’s called “SheTaxis” on Long Island and in Westchester County. In New York City where the use of the word "taxi" is regulated, it will be called “SheRides.”

All of its drivers will be women and they will only pick up women or women who have men with them.

Stella Mateo is the person behind the idea; she says she wishes such a service existed when her daughters were growing up.

Passengers can tell SheTaxi drivers from the other livery hacks by their hot pink pashmina scarves.

The app based service will available starting Tuesday in all five boroughs, Westchester County, and on Long Island.
