NEW JERSEY (PIX11) – A 16-year-old girl was running with her friends in New Jersey when a driver tried to lure them into his car, an incident that has police in the community issuing a warning to residents.

It happened about 4:30 p.m. Sept. 5, according to the Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Department.

A 16-year-old girl told police she was running with a friend when a man driving a bright red Toyota Camry verbally enticed them to get in his car.

The pair refused, ran away and told police. The driver fled in his 2008-2009-model sedan with New Jersey plates south along Henry Hudson Drive toward Fort Lee/Edgewater.

The culprit is described as a white male, about 50 years old, heavy set with blue eyes, and white or gray hair. He was clean shaven and wearing a t-shirt at the time.
