NEWARK, N.J. (AP) – Authorities say man was fatally shot on a Newark street, the third person killed during a series of weekend shootings in the state’s largest city.
Essex County prosecutors say police officers responding to reports of shots fired found 22-year-old Newark resident Leo Wright on Bergen Street shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday. Wright was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Prosecutors said Sunday that a motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
Earlier Saturday, one man had been killed and another was wounded when they were shot outside a restaurant on
Elizabeth Avenue. Another man had been shot to death late Friday on Riverside Avenue.
Authorities say it does not appear that any of the shootings are connected.
