CORONA, Queens (PIX11) -- A 2-year-old child was found safe in Queens after carjackers took her along with the car they stole.
The girl's mother and grandmother left her in the car around 12:02 a.m. Sunday with the keys in the ignition while they went into a bodega across the street on the corner of 108th Street and 49th Avenue to buy diapers, police said.
After a carjacker jumped into the rented blue Hyundai and drove off, the mother came out of the store frantic.
Police found the car about two hours later a few blocks from where it was stolen on 98th Street and Corona Avenue with the girl still in the back seat. They smashed the windows to get her out, and she was taken to Elmhurst Hospital for examination.
The mother is not facing any charges, police said. They are still searching for the carjacker, described as 5-foot-9, average build, wearing a white T shirt and baseball cap.
