Two fatal shootings in Newark

NEWARK, N.J. (PIX11) — Police are investigating two fatal shootings in Newark, N.J., late Friday night and early Saturday morning.

The first happened at around 10:15 p.m. on Friday in the 100 block of Riverside Avenue. Police found a man with gunshot wounds lying in the street. The victim, Tyquil Whitehead, 18, was taken to University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The second shooting happened just before 2 a.m. Saturday in the 200 block of Elizabeth Avenue, where two men were shot outside a restaurant. One of the victims, Napolean Williams, 33, of Newark, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim, who police did not immediately identify, was taken to University Hospital, where he was admitted in stable condition.

Police say the two shootings don’t appear to be related.
