(PIX11) -- Grammy-nominated musician Sheila E details her relationships and music career in her new memoir The Beat of My Own Drum.

From an early age, Sheila E displayed incredible talent and a percussionist with her father. She also went on to play with the likes of Marvin Gaye, Lionel Richie and Herbie Hancock.

In the late 1970's, she met with mentor Prince at a show and soon began working with him, but it was during a recording session that her vocals were used for "Erotic City." The song later spawned a solo singing career.

Sheila E also ventured into acting and starred in films such as "Krush Groove" and "The Adventures of Ford Fairlane." Now she's sharing all of her stories in a memoir, which is available in stores now.
