Queens school evacuated after AC unit spews smoke into building

OZONE PARK, Queens (PIX11) - A Queens school was evacuated on the first day of classes after an air conditioner began smoking, according to the FDNY.

The unit, located on the roof of elementary school P.S. 63 at 90-15 Sutter Avenue, began pumping smoke into the building's auditorium Thursday morning, according to Department of Education spokesperson Marge Feinberg.

The school was fully evacuated but no injuries were reported.

It's unclear what caused the malfunction.
