It's the "Eye-Sun Protection Factor," the E-SPF index is the most complete measure on the amount of UV protection glasses provide for the eyes. It measures both the UV protection provided from the front side of the lens as well as the backside of the lens.

Historically, health-conscious people looked for glasses with the 100 percent "UVA/UVB" protection but this only measures the UV protection from the front side.
