NEW YORK (PIX11) --  Comedienne Jessica Kirson was trying hard not to think of Joan Rivers while up in the stage at the Gotham Comedy Club.

That's because Kirson says she has to be in the moment and not worrying about the life and death fight of the iconic female comedienne who paved the way for generations of younger female comediennes.

"I have been thinking about her constantly, Jessica Kirson, comedienne, told PIX 11. "She's working all the time.

"She allowed other comedians to be rough," Chris Mazzilli, owner Gotham Comedy Club. "She paved the way."

River's daughter Melissa released a three sentence statement:

"My mother would be so touched by the tributes and prayers that we have received from around the world. Her condition remains serious but she is receiving the best treatment and care possible. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts as we pray for her recovery."

Rivers repeatedly will be brought out of her medically induced coma over the weekend so doctors can assess if there is any damage.

Her fans are hoping for a full recovery.

"She better stay alive because we need her," Valerie Porr, a Rivers fan said. "She gives us the courage to get old."
