Talk about a close call.

A tourist had to swim for his life after wandering into waters inhabited by a eleven-and-a-half-foot crocodile on Mexico’s Playa del Carmen coast.

According to Manuel Carrera, who uploaded the astonishing video to Facebook, the swimmer didn’t realize the giant male croc hangs out underneath the Boca Paila bridge, stealing fishermen’s catches.

The man frantically swims to the shore, as the reptile swims lethargically after him.

A bystander watching from the bridge throws what looks like a cooler into the water and distracts the beast, allowing the swimmer to make it safely to the shore.
