FLUSHING, Queens (PIX11) — A man was killed after he fell through an elevator shaft inside a Queens apartment building Wednesday.

Repair men working on a broken elevator at a building on 41-90 Place in Flushing saw a foot hanging from the shaft at 1 p.m. and called 911.

Sources say the victim, a 50-year-old man, apparently opened the hallway door that leads to the elevator, thinking it would be there and fell through.

When EMS arrived, the victim was recovered with a small refrigerator on top him. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The victim’s identity has yet to be released.
