NEW YORK (PIX11) -- An Amtrak train heading for Washington D.C. left the platform without boarding hundreds of passengers.

People were stranded after Acela Express 2253 took off from one platform while they waited at another.

Travelers told the New York Daily News that they were sent to the wrong platform.

Several passengers tweeted the company about the mix-up.

Amtrak is investigating why the train left the station before passengers could board.
