LOS ANGELES (PIX11) — Australian-born “American Idol” finalist Michael Johns has died at age 35, the show’s official Facebook page announced.

The cause of death is believed to be a blood clot in his ankle, The Hollywood Reporter said. He passed away Saturday.

“Michael Johns was an incredible talent and we are deeply saddened by the news of his passing,” a  statement from Fox, FremantleMedia North America and 19 Entertainment said.

“He was a part of our American Idol family and he will be truly missed. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.”

Johns was a contestant on the singing competition in 2008. Former judges Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson both took to Twitter to express their condolences.
