CLAY COUNTY, Fla. (PIX11) — The Florida teen accused of setting a rare tortoise on fire before stomping it to death is now facing underage sex charges.
Jennifer Greene, 18, is charged with one count of lewd and lascivious battery on another person, according to FOX30. Greene allegedly began a sexual relationship with a boy who was older than 12 but younger than 16 when she was 17-years-old.
Greene and her 15-year-old friend, Danielle Susan Dionne, posted a video online of themselves torturing the gopher tortoise, which is a threatened species native to the southeastern United States, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
As the teens set the terrified animal on fire, it retreats back into its shell. “Burn him, baby,” one of the girls can be heard saying in the video. “I just want him to die,” the other says.
Greene faces felony animal cruelty charges, which can carry a five-year prison sentence.
The state attorney is planning on charging Greene as an adult in the underage sex case. She faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
