(PIX11)-- Former President Bill Clinton allegedly told an Australian audience hours before the September 11 attacks that he could have killed Osama bin Laden.

In 2001, just hours before the terror attacks on the World Trade Center towers, Clinton was in Australia saying he had a chance to take out al-Qaeda mastermind Osama Bin Laden but passed.

He was in Melbourne, speaking to business leaders when he was asked about terrorism.

Clinton's statements referred to a proposed strike in December 1998, after intelligence indicated that Bin Laden was staying at the governor's residence in Kandahar.

That potential strike was addressed in the 9/11 Commission report.
