NEW YORK (PIX11) -- The young Brooklyn mother of four who was allegedly killed by her landlady was stabbed more than 40 times before being dismembered and decapitated.
"Vengeance belongs to God," said Dale Browne, husband of the murder victim, Chinelle Browne, said.
When Browne saw his wife's brutal killer in court for the second time, he said he felt physically ill.
"I physically feel hurt from processing this," Browne said.
In court, Browne heard from prosecutors that they believe his wife's landlady, Leah Cuevas, stabbed the mother of four young children more than 40 times before hacking off her limbs and beheading her in a rent dispute.
Assistant District Attorney Robert Biancavilla said there were "wounds to the neck and torso. The victim had 40 stab wounds in addition to the dismemberment."
After court, the district attorney said he couldn't remember a more gruesome case where over the period of 12 days Chinelle Browne's body was found literally in pieces across Nassau and Suffolk counties.
"It truly is shocking to me that we were talking about something as horrendous as this," Suffolk County District attorney Thomas Spota said.
Cuevas's attorney entered a not guilty plea and Cuevas was ordered held without bail.
"The evidence isn't in and then the facts aren't in and there are no eyewitnesses no confession. She has a presumption of innocence," Mary Beth Abbatte, Curvas's lawyer said.
If convicted, Cuevas faces the maximum on the second degree murder charge 25 to life.
