GREENPOINT, Brooklyn (PIX11) -- Police are investigating reports of a pit bull being thrown off the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway at Meeker Avenue in Greenpoint, Brooklyn Tuesday evening.
A witness told PIX11 they saw the dog tumbling off the BQE during rush hour.
Dr. Brett Levitzke with the Veterinary Emergency & Referral Group is caring for the dog, now named "Meeker" because of where he was found.
Dr. Levitzke said the 3-year-old pit bull was brought in by a Good Samaritan.
The hospital says the non-profit Positive Tails is finding donations for Meeker until adoption he can be adopted.
Meeker was treated for a collapsed lung, which is consistent with a fall. He also may require surgery for other injuries.
It is unknown if the dog had an owner.
