Plane evacuated on runway at LaGuardia Airport

NEW YORK (PIX11) — Passengers on an American Airlines plane were evacuated on the runway at LaGuardia Airport due to a smoke condition.

There was reportedly smoke in the cockpit Flight 3340 bound for Knoxville, Tennessee.

One person reported difficulty breathing.

In a statement to PIX11, American Airlines flight turned to LGA shortly after departure because of a mechanical issue.

“The flight landed safely and passengers were deplaned on the runway and transported to the terminal by bus,” the statement reads. “We are working to re-accommodate customers on other flights.”
