CONEY ISLAND, Brooklyn (PIX11) – A robber was so forceful when he ripped the necklace off of a woman waiting for a bus in Brooklyn that the victim fell to the ground and hit her face on the pavement, police said.

Surveillance video released Tuesday shows the attacker – described as a black male in his 30s, about 5 feet 7 inches tall and 160 pounds – approach the woman standing at a bus stop near Mermaid Avenue and West 31st Street July 18.

It happened about 1 p.m. with several witnesses around.

First, the attacker walks past a group of mostly women standing at a bus stop. Moments later, he returns, sidles up to a 54-year-old woman and yanks the jewelry from her neck.

He ran away, leaving his victim on the ground with a cut to her head. She was taken to a hospital, treated and released.

The culprit was last seen wearing a white shirt and dark shorts with white sneakers.

Anyone with information in the case is urged to call NYPD’s anonymous Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
