Man allegedly assaults and robs victim, then demands ransom from victim’s father

BOHEMIA, NY (PIX11) — A man has been arrested for attacking another man in his sleep with a mallet, then demanding money from the victim’s family.

Joseph Ferraro, 27, attacked his victim with a mallet while he slept. The victim suffered a head injury.

The victim’s mother arrived shortly after and took her son to Southside Hospital.

During the attack, Ferraro phoned the victim’s father and demanded he deliver large sum of money or his son would suffer further injury.

The father quickly withdrew the requested funds from an ATM and dropped it off at Ferraro’s residence.

Police then arrested Ferraro outside his house at 12:35 a.m.

He was charged with burglary, assault, and grand larceny.
