Blaze rips through New Jersey law office
PALISADES PARK, N.J. (PIX11) – Firefighters battled a blaze burning for more than two hours at a commercial building Wednesday morning in New Jersey.
The fire was reported about 6 a.m. at 318 Bergin Ave. in Palisades Park. Heavy fire initially broke out on second floor of the two-story building which houses law offices.
It has since been extinguished. No one was hurt, but the fire quickly escalated in severity, rising to six-alarm status before it was finally tamped out about shortly before 10 a.m.
Firefighters had been attacking the blaze from the roof, knocking open a hole to vent the smoke and flames. They were soon taken off the roof, which had become soft from constantly gushing water.
Aerial footage of the scene showed a gaping hole in the building’s roof, where at least two large air conditioning units sit.
Smoke from the fire wafted into a neighboring apartment building for hours.
