Parody ‘Respect’ commercial pokes fun at Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez

NEW YORK (PIX11)– Baseball fans either love or at least respect Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter. Alex Rodriguez, however, breeds a different kind of sentiment, mostly centered around fans’ disdain and envy toward the third baseman.

That was the subject of Funny or Die’s parody of the recent Jordan commercial labeled “Respect,” honoring Jeter’s significance in sports and in New York. Their version was a tribute to Yankee fans’ extreme dislike for Rodriguez, who is serving his season-long suspension from baseball due to steroids accusations.

Throughout video, Yankees faithful, police officers, firefighters and fans from Rodriguez’ past teams (Texas Rangers, Seattle Mariners) pay “respect” to the guy by putting up their not-so-nice middle finger.

Unlike this hilarious commercial, Jeter’s tribute was hair-raising (and cap-raising) and an awesome way to pay homage to a future Hall of Famer.
