NEW YORK (PIX11) — Mayor Bill de Blasio has postponed his Italian vacation, according to the city’s press office.

“The Mayor will postpone the departure for his upcoming family vacation to Saturday, in order to attend to City business,” Press Secretary Phil Walzak wrote in a statement.

The Mayor and Police Commissioner Bill Bratton held a press conference Friday afternoon on the fatal arrest of a Staten Island man that was caught on cellphone video.

Authorities say Eric Garner, 43, was being arrested for selling illegal cigarettes. The video appears to show one of the officers placing Garner in a choke-hold.

Garner can be heard multiple times on the video saying “I can’t breathe.” After falling unconscious, Garner died at a nearby hospital.

The officers involved have been placed on desk duty.

De Blasio and Bratton have promised a full investigation.
