NEW YORK (PIX11) – A desperate mother turned to PIX11 News to get her daughter the help and tough love she needed after a shocking, violent video was posted online showing a group of girls beating a stranger on a New York park bench.

First seen on PIX11, the footage shows a gang of young girls brutally beating a woman to the ground earlier this month. Since one of those girls – just 14 years old – was identified by police, she has been on the run. Her own mother had no idea where she was.

The girl’s mother called PIX11 News as a last resort, and police arrested the girl.

Clinical psychologist Dr. Jeff Gardere and the girl’s mother visited the PIX11 Morning News Thursday to break down the warning signs and distinguish between typical teenage rebellion and life-threatening behavior.

Signs that a child is rebelling:

  • Isolation
  • Poor peer group
  • Poor academics
  • Oppositional
  • Defiance and Anger
  • Use of alcohol and drugs
  • Behavioral and sexual acting out

Reasons for rebellion:

  • Peer pressure
  • Physical or sexual abuse
  • Poverty
  • Lack of options
  • Negative environments
  • Learning problems
  • Poor self-esteem

Parents need to be made aware of the fact that if they call police on their child , they may regret it! Once the police/family court gets involved ,YOU and your family may be victimize by the state! If your child is taken out of your home your still responsible to pay child support for that child. If your child is put on probation…… That’s a whole different road, in Orange County , NY my son was 14 years old got into a school fight with a 16 year old boy that was harrassing him for months and my son, reacted by hitting the boy. My son was suspended from school from January until September and put on 2 years probation!! Those 2 years the state put our family through was hell!! Please advise parents to seek a different kind of help because at the end of the day, it will only hurt you and your family!! You would think they would be supportive but……. It’s a business and they REALLY don’t care!!
