Heavy rain brings traffic to near standstill around region

NEW YORK (PIX11) -- Traffic came to a near standstill on the George Washington Bridge Tuesday evening after flooding on the Cross Bronx Expressway triggered delays over the bridge and back into New Jersey.

Drivers reported the ride over the upper level of the bridge into New York City lasted over three hours for some.

The Cross Bronx Expressway was briefly shut down in both directions near Jerome Avenue after heavy rain flooded the road.

All lanes of the Cross Bronx Expressway have reopened by residual delays remain.
