NYACK, N.Y. (PIX11) -- A truck driver was trapped for hours in his overturned big-rig after a violent crash that sent him flying down an embankment, officials said.

The crash happened about 3 a.m. along the southbound New York State Thruway near exit 12 in Nyack.

The driver was traveling south on the Thruway when he apparently lost control and crossed the divider into the northbound lanes, officials said.

While driving against traffic, the truck driver struck a car and plunged down an embankment. The truck landed on its side, trapping for driver for some two hours.

By 5 a.m., the driver had been extricated from the truck in unknown condition. It was not immediately known whether anyone was injured in the car that was struck.
