San Diego, CA (KSWB) — Police escorted a Navy wife from a Brad Paisley concert at Sleep Train Amphitheatre Thursday night because they said she was endangering her baby by being in the “pit” area.

Megan Christopherson recorded the interaction between her and at least three Chula Vista police officers and posted the video to YouTube.

The video shows officers asking her to leave the pit area of the concert with them. When she asks why, one of the officers tells her that she is putting her baby in danger because of the loud music and the possibility that the baby could be crushed if the crowd surges forward toward the stage. The officer explains that they consulted the District Attorney’s Office before approaching her and were told that bringing a baby to the pit area of a concert constituted borderline felony child endangerment.

Christopherson suggested that the real reason they were asking her to leave was because she had been breastfeeding the baby early, but the officer denied that, saying that their only concern was for her baby’s safety.

The officers told Christopherson that she could be seated in a safer area to watch the concert or leave the concert and get a refund. Christopherson opted for the refund.

As the woman was lead out of the venue, both she and her older daughter, who appeared to be about 10 years old, burst into tears.

Christopherson said that her husband is in the Navy. She repeatedly asked the officers for proof that noise levels in the pit area posed a danger to her baby. At one point during the interaction, an officer threatened to refer the case to San Diego County Child Protective Services. He also said that if she had refused to leave the pit with the baby, she would have been placed under arrest.

The Chula Vista Police Department released a statement Friday about the incident which was consistent with the events shown in YouTube video.

“The Chula Vista Police Department’s involvement in the incident was due to the welfare and safety of the infant and not due to a mother’s legal right to breastfeed in public,” the statement concluded.

What exactly is the point of mentioning her husband’s job? How is that even vaguely relavent to this incident? Did she bringit up to troll for sympathy? Not everything is about breastfeeding. It was irresponsible of her to have an infant in an area with that level of sound. Concerts are notorious for hearing damaging sound levels especially with the prolonged exposure. And the pit? Doubly so. The officers acted responsibly. Also let me point out that she opted to leave, she wasn’t thrown out.

The woman is the irresponsible one!!! I have been in the pit at many concerts and my 52 year old ears hurt for days after the concert!! I can’t imagine what those childrens’ ears feel like!!! For her to put the blame on security and police is ridiculous and to say it was because she was breastfeeding!! Get real!!! She should be locked up and those children taken away from her!!!! I truly hope CPS investigates this further!!!

Who takes a tiny infant to a loud concert like that …. Her attitude only reinforces how obnoxious and irresponsible she is… And she did it twice (just that she admits to) and had her baby “in the pit” at the Tim McGraw concert.. Sleeping or not – this is harmful to an adult’s hearing – much less a tiny baby.. Get a baby sitter .. I think the officer was incredibly respectful to her – way more than I would have been .. They even offered to move them to a safer location AND offered a refund which in all honesty was more than generous in my mind… She’s lucky they didn’t charge her when she became combative.. And pulling the breastfeeding as well as the “Navy” card is even more revolting .. It has no bearing whatsoever other than to cast a poor reflection upon all of the other responsible Navy mothers who would never behave this way as a mother .. She’s just gross… I hope she is being pummeled from the back lash that she was clearly not expecting when she filmed herself acting like a douche

I am exhausted by people who refuse to take responsibility for their actions. What parent takes an infant and young child to a concert… And even worse, stands in the pit? It is too loud for small children and babies and the crowd situation is so unsafe. This idiot is asked to move for the safety of the baby and child. Instead of using her brain and moving, she causes a scene and tries to hide behind the claim that she was breast feeding. What a liar. What a terrible role model for her children. Shame on her.
