BAY SHORE, N.Y. (AP) - Police on eastern Long Island are investigating the discovery of a partially dismembered body found in a municipal parking lot.

Suffolk County homicide detectives say the remains of a woman were found at about 6:50 a.m. Tuesday.

The parking lot is near the busy downtown business district in Bay Shore. It's about a half-mile from the Fire Island ferry terminal.

The remains were found by two people who were walking to the terminal. The medical examiner's office is conduction an autopsy.

Tuesday's discovery prompted Suffolk County police to send a K9 unit to the nearby Gilgo Beach area where 10 sets of human remains were found in 2011.

Police say there are no known links between the Bay Shore body and Gilgo, but that the search was conducted out of an "abundance of precaution."
