NEW YORK (AP) - The NYPD is investigating after skeletal human remains were found inside a refuse-filled apartment in Brooklyn.

Police say they responded at 5 p.m. Monday after getting a 911 call of a foul odor coming out of an apartment at 4702 15 Ave.

They say they found a 28-year-old woman who told officers she wanted to harm herself.

Police say the apartment was in disarray and filled with garbage and refuse.

After EMS transported the woman to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation, police say they discovered the skeletal remains.

The medical examiner's office will determine the cause of death.
