This year, Curious George invites families everywhere to come to NYC.

NEW YORK (PIX11) — New York City has tasked beloved character Curious George as the latest ambassador to potential visitors.

Because Curious George is known for his fun adventures and is loved by people of all ages around the world, he is the perfect character to show the world NYC is a family-friendly city, officials say.

NYC’s official tourism marketing organization, NYC & Company, started their ambassador campaign in 2009.

Since then, visiting families, 30.8% of all NYC tourists, have been pouring in — data shows vacationing families in NYC have increased by 26.5%.

Curious George is replacing 2013’s ambassador “Where’s Waldo.” Other ambassadors include The Muppets, Dora the Explorer and the Sesame Street gang.

Starting Tuesday on NYC’s Official Guide for families, Curious George will be covering all of NYC’s family activities — from a day at the beach or a day at the zoo, to activities in the park, museums, and on Broadway.

The editorials will include guides to spots around the five boroughs, videos, and suggestions for adventure, for both locals and beyond.

The Curious George campaign will be promoted through TV ads, bus station shelters, and social media under the hashtag #nycgofamily.
