WINSLOW TOWNSHIP, N.J. (PIX11) – A New Jersey teenager was sound asleep when someone opened fire outside her Sicklerville home, sending a stray bullet through the girl’s bedroom wall.

The bullet struck the 13-year-old in the lower back early Monday, according to Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo.

“When I came out my sister was crawling toward me saying she was going to die,” Toni Hudson told WPVI-TV. “I said ‘you’re not going to die.'”

The girl, identified as Tiya Hudson, was treated at Cooper University Hospital in Camden; her injuries are not considered life-threatening.

“We’re not at the wrong place at the wrong time,” Tiya’s mother Betty Hudson said.  “We’re home in bed and something like this happens.”

Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots outside the Hathaway Drive home, and police found nearly a dozen shell casings in the street.

Another woman living on the same street also suffered minor injuries in the shooting.  According to the Camden County Prosecutor, a 56-year-old woman was struck by flying glass from a broken window, but refused treatment at the scene.

No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to contact Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Detective Vincent McCalla at (856) 225-8569 or Winslow Twp. Police Detective Cary Robinson at (609) 567-0700 ext. 1147.
